Description
18th C. English Sterling Mustard Pot, Blue Glass Liner, R. Hennell, London 1781An early Geo III - English hallmarked sterling silver condiment / mustard drum shape pot with a removable hand-blown cobalt blue glass liner. The hallmarks on the underside show that the piece was made in London in 1781 and show the maker’s initials “RH” for Robert Hennel I. The pot is pierced work throughout the box with a but out of an urn in the centre of the piercing.
The pot has a hinged lid and an opening on one side for a spoon to sit inside. There is embossing on the top and piercing all around the body of the pot, which allows the gorgeous cobalt blue glass to shine through.
There is a pontil mark on the bottom of the glass liner, showing that the liner was hand-blown.
The pot measures 3 1/2 inches wide from the edge to the tip of the handle and is 3 1/4 inches tall from the “lifter” decoration on the edge of the handle to the bottom of the base.
Weight: 111 grams.
The pot and liner are in excellent condition.
