    Description

Colonial Era Colonial to Revolutionary War Era, Original FOUR BUTTON GANG MOLD
Button Making Mold of Colonial to Revolutionary War Era
    c. 1760-80 18th Century Colonial to Revolutionary War Era, Original Nathaniel Miller made Hallmarked with initials “NM”, Four Button Brass Gang Mold, Choice Very Fine.
This very rare Revolutionary War era Button Mold is made of Brass. It measures approximately 5.5” in length x 1” wide x 1” tall. Wooden handles would be placed on the tapered long ends (not present). The local Militias during the Revolutionary War era typically had no military uniforms and wore plain faced buttons without a unit designation. There is an original makers hallmark “NM” upon the reverse, attributed to Nathaniel Miller who is well known for his buttons molds for the Revolution. Miller’s family lived in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. During the American Revolution he also made .69 caliber Bullet molds, a typical size used in muskets of the period, including the imported French muskets of that caliber. Compared to Bullet molds, original period Button Molds are significantly rarer.
